Srinagar, Mar 23: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday highlighted the importance of caring for trees to sustainably protect the planet’s natural resources.
In his message on International Arbor Day, Dr Farooq emphasised the significance of planting trees and sowing seeds, saying that when a bird, person or animal benefits from the fruits of a tree, it is considered a charitable gift (sadaqah).
Quoting the revered patron saint Nund Reshi (RA), he reiterated the profound connection between food and forests, especially in the face of climate change.
Addressing the alarming rate of deforestation and depletion of tree cover in Jammu and Kashmir, the NC Chief stressed the urgent need for collective action to safeguard our urban, rural and forested areas. Acknowledging the role of the government in this endeavour, he called upon individuals to actively participate in preserving our precious tree cover.
Dr Abdullah urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to unite in protecting the environment, emphasising that both the government and citizens must work together to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
