Srinagar, March 26: Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed ‘Minbar’ at the historic Eidgah in Srinagar. A dignified yet grand ceremony was organised by the Waqf Board to mark the occasion.
Expressing her delight at the project’s completion, Dr Andrabi described it as a significant milestone in the restoration and development of Eidgah. “The redevelopment of Eidgah and the restoration of its historical significance is our dream project, and the construction of this Minbar is an integral part of it,” she said. Dr Andrabi reaffirmed the Waqf Board’s commitment to modernising and efficiently managing its assets. “Despite resistance from vested interests, we have remained steadfast in our mission to establish the J&K Waqf Board as a model institution nationwide. Our efforts to streamline governance have fostered transparency and accountability, resulting in tangible improvements at all Waqf-managed shrines and assets across Jammu and Kashmir,” she said. Dr Andrabi was accompanied by Waqf Board members Syed Mohammed Hussain and Dr Ghulam Nabi Haleem, along with religious and administrative figures, including, Mufti Ghulam Rasool, Imam of Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Maulana Riyazul Haq, Imam of Hazratbal Shrine, Waqf Board Executive Magistrate Ishtiaq Mohiuddin, Executive Engineer Qazi Mushtaq Ahmad, BJP Srinagar District President, Advocate Sheikh Salman and prominent citizens of Srinagar. Addressing the media, Dr Andrabi reiterated the Waqf Board’s plans to enhance infrastructure at key religious sites across Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring their preservation and modernisation in line with contemporary needs.
