Srinagar, Oct 5: The 7th District Soft Tennis Championship 2022-23 concluded on Saturday at Gindun Sports Stadium Rajbagh, here.
More than 85 players from various age categories – Sub Junior, Junior and Senior (boys & girls) from district Srinagar, and students from Delhi Public School Budgam, G.D. Goenka, Mallinson Girls School, Kashmir Harward, Blue Bells etc. participated in the championship.
Mohammad Qais of DPS Budgam bagged the gold medal, Syed Hyder of G.D. Goenka won the silver and Zayeem Masoodi won the bronze.
Interestingly, 10-year-old 5th-class DPS student Mohammad Qais from Natipora Srinagar defeated 17-year-old 11th-class Syed Hyder Ali of G.D. Goenka School in the final match in open category. The set score was 4:1, 4:3, 4:2 in sets one, two and three respectively.
Hilal Ahmad, Manager Gindun Sports Stadium Rajbagh, who was the chief guest on the occasion, distributed medals among the players. Asif Altaf, Joint Secretary JKASTA, and Sameer Ahmad Shah, Vice President, JKASTA were the guests of honour during the closing ceremony.
The championship was organized by the District Soft Tennis Association Srinagar in collaboration with J&K Sports Council under the banner of J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association.
