Kargil, Sep 20: In its relentless fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse, the District Police Kargil achieved a significant victory within a span of 24 hours. Law enforcement personnel intercepted a fuel tanker on NH1D between Sumat and Thasgam, Drass, recovering approximately 18 kilograms of Poppy Straw.

The operation unfolded when a police team from the Drass Police Station, engaged in routine naka checking, halted a suspicious individual on NH1D near the Thasgam army camp. Their attention was drawn to a fuel tanker bearing registration number HR37E/7373. Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, officers discovered an estimated 18 kilograms of a substance resembling Poppy Straw. Swiftly, the recovered substance was seized, and the suspected individual was apprehended at the scene.

In response to this successful operation, Case FIR no. 25/2023 has been registered under sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act at P/S Drass. The investigation is currently ongoing to unearth further details and potential links to the drug trade.

The District Police Kargil has issued an earnest appeal to the general public to cooperate and share any information regarding drug peddlers. Their aim is to combat the drug menace and safeguard the future of the younger generation. Authorities emphasize that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in drug peddling.

The Ladakh Police remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community and continue to work diligently to rid the region of the scourge of drug trafficking.
