Jammu, Fe 7: Director Sericulture Jammu and Kashmir Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Saturday chaired a meeting where in he set the roadmap for 2025-26 silkworm and Cocoon production.
A statement issued here said that Bhat chaired a high-level meeting at the Directorate’s camp office in Jammu, to review the progress of key developmental projects, silkworm seed production and cocoon output across the region. The meeting also focused on finalising a comprehensive roadmap and production targets for the financial year 2025-26.
During the district-wise review, the Director emphasised setting realistic yet ambitious cocoon production targets while ensuring that necessary interventions are in place to support silkworm rearers. The discussion also covered achievements under various schemes, including Silk Samagra-2, Departmental Initiatives, and other allied programmes for 2024-25.
A detailed assessment of the Physical and Financial Status of major projects under Capex, the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), NABARD, and Silk Samagra-2 was conducted for 2023-24 and 2024-25. The Director underscored the importance of efficient fund utilisation and timely project execution to maximise benefits for the sericulture sector. Ensuring the availability of high-quality silkworm seed for 2025-26 was another key focus of the meeting. The Director urged concerned officials to enhance seed production capacity and strengthen departmental infrastructure to meet growing demand.
He also highlighted the need for widespread awareness among farmers, youth, and women about scientific sericulture practices and government schemes. Field officers were instructed to intensify outreach programmes, conduct awareness camps, and utilise digital platforms to encourage greater participation in sericulture as a viable source of income. Senior officers, including the Additional Director of Sericulture, all District Sericulture Officers, and representatives from Accounts, Planning, and the Technical Section of the Directorate, attended the meeting. The Director commended the efforts of field functionaries and urged them to work in a more coordinated and strategic manner to achieve the department’s ambitious targets for 2025-26.
