Srinagar, May 25: In a move aimed at boosting the morale and providing financial assistance to the wards of police personnel, including Special Police Officers (SPOs), the Director General of Police, J&K R.R. Swain has sanctioned scholarships totaling over Rs 8.50 lakh for 105 wards who have excelled in competitive and annual examinations or are pursuing higher education.
A police spokesperson in a statement issued here said, “The DGP sanctioned meritorious scholarships of Rs 6,000 each for 22 wards of serving police personnel who secured above 90% marks in their Class 10th annual examination for the academic session 2022-23. Additionally, Rs 4,000 each has been sanctioned for 17 wards who secured above 80% marks. The top achievers among them are Azra Manzoor (98.8%), Syed Tehniyat Tasleem (98%), and Navdeep Kour (97.6%).”
For the wards of serving SPOs, the DGP has sanctioned Rs 7,200 each for two wards who secured above 90% marks and Rs 6,000 each for three wards who secured above 80% marks in the Class 12th annual examination. Similarly, Rs 6,000 each has been awarded to those securing above 90% marks and Rs 4,000 each for eight wards securing above 80% marks in the Class 10th examination. The top achievers in this list include Akanksha Sharma (95.8%), Musheetah Ayoub (95%), and Ankit Sharma (94.4%).
The DGP also sanctioned special rewards of Rs 10,000 each and commendation certificates (Class-I) for 34 wards of serving police personnel who cleared competitive exams such as JEE (Main), NEET, BOPEE, SKUAST, and GATE.
Furthermore, a scholarship of Rs 2 lakh from the Central Police Education Fund has been sanctioned for 15 wards of martyred police personnel who laid down their lives in terrorism-related incidents. These amounts, ranging from Rs 12,500 to Rs 15,000, will support their undergraduate and postgraduate education.
“The J&K Police remains committed to the welfare and well-being of the families of serving police personnel as well as the next of kin (NoK) of martyrs, deceased, and retired officers/officials. These scholarships aim to enable the wards of police brave-hearts to excel in their education and personal growth,” the spokesperson added.
