Jammu, Jan 23: CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, organized a workshop on the production and crop management of floricultural crops and Quality Planting Material (QPM) distribution program at KVK, Samba, under the guidance of Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Director CSIR-IIIM, Jammu.
The event aimed to provide hands-on training to 100 participants on the scientific cultivation and crop management of floricultural crops. Additionally, high-quality seed material of marigold was distributed among the participating farmers.
Dr Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head KVK Samba, welcomed the participants and expressed gratitude to CSIR-IIIM for extending the activities of the Floriculture Mission in the district. Dr Shahid Rasool, Nodal Scientist, CSIR Floriculture Mission, highlighted the mission’s impact on commercial floriculture farming in the UT of J&K through area expansion and production of various cut and loose flower varieties.
Amarinder Singh Reen, Joint Director, Agriculture, Jammu, commended the efforts of CSIR-IIIM in providing scientific and technological assistance to farmers in the UT. He encouraged participating farmers to take advantage of such societal development initiatives.
In the technical sessions, lectures on the scientific cultivation of marigolds were delivered by Dr Iqra Farooq, Senior Project Associate, CSIR-IIIM, and Dr Saurav Gupta, Senior Scientist, KVK, Samba. On-field demonstrations of quality nursery production of marigolds and the use of bio-control agents in floriculture were conducted.
Tejinder Singh Wazir, Prakash Chowdhary, prominent J&K Kissan Advisory Board members, and participating farmers praised CSIR IIIM’s outreach for the timely distribution of quality planting material. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr S. R Meena, Senior Technical Officer, CSIR IIIM.
