Jammu, Jan 23: Labour Commissioner, Charandeep Singh on Tuesday emphasized ensuring compliance with the labour laws in letter and spirit and urged the management to ensure appropriate measures for the safety and health of workers.
“Government is committed to enhancing the welfare and well-being of workers in both the organised and unorganised sectors and also harmonise the needs of workers and industry,” Singh said, adding that a checklist of labour welfare provisions under various labour laws will be provided to the establishments for convenience.
The Labour Commissioner visited several establishments and construction sites in Jammu district including Tawi Riverfront Project and Amar Flour Mills at Gangyal. During the visit, he interacted with the workers and the management to get a firsthand appraisal of the implementation of labour welfare laws and social security schemes.
Singh enquired about difficulties, if any, being faced by the workers in availing benefits of the government welfare schemes meant for them. He touched upon the subject of wages, hours of work, overtime, leave including sick leave, welfare, health and the basic amenities provided to the workers at the work sites. The workers thanked the Labour Commissioner for interacting and listening to them.
Earlier, the Labour Commissioner handed over a cheque of Rs 15.74 lakh, under the Employees Compensation Act-1923, to the legal heirs of a deceased worker hailing from Deoli, Bamblya District Rajouri who met with a fatal accident during his employment in the Delhi-Katra Expressway.
