Samba, Sep 29: Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing developmental projects and initiatives in District Samba, focusing on the progress of various schemes and projects in the area. Attendees at the meeting included Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar, SSP Samba Benam Tosh, and heads of various divisions and departments operating within the district.
Deputy Commissioner Samba Abhishek Sharma presented a detailed sector-wise overview of the ongoing projects and schemes managed by various departments in the district, including several significant projects such as the construction of the Bus Stand at Vijaypur, the Degree College at Purmandal, and the Nari Niketan building in Samba. Updates on several other projects, such as the upgradation of the existing Municipal complex, the construction of a multifunctional complex at the Samba bus stand, and the construction of the OPD block of the District Hospital in Samba, were also provided.
The Chief Secretary reviewed the status of the ongoing projects, programs, flagship schemes, and financial progress for the fiscal years 2022-23 and 2023-24. Several directives were issued, including a strong focus on achieving zero unemployment in the district by the Labour and Employment department. The Education department was tasked with ensuring adequate numbers of teachers in each panchayat and 100% functional female toilets in all schools.
The Animal and Sheep Husbandry department was directed to concentrate on export-based production of poultry and milk products and formulate one PACS per panchayat, while the Agriculture department was instructed to increase crop intensity, conduct workshops in collaboration with SKUAST, and prioritize the production of cash crops such as dragon fruit, strawberry, and citrus fruits. The goal is to make J&K the leader in horticulture production by identifying and eliminating gaps in performance compared to other states.
During the review, the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission was discussed with an emphasis on accelerating its completion, and the Chief Secretary also e-inaugurated several projects, including the material recovery facility & compost pit shed in the Municipal Committee Bari-Brahmana. Dr Mehta emphasized the importance of identifying additional services that can transition to online mode to streamline government processes and ensure that citizens are not unduly inconvenienced by visiting government offices.
The Chief Secretary also held discussions with DDC Chairperson Keshav Dutt Sharma and members, BDC members, and business delegations. He stressed the importance of holding regular interactions with them for the overall development of the district and the percolation of benefits from all the beneficiary-oriented schemes down to grassroots levels.
