Srinagar, Aug 24: Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday expressed profound grief over the demise of its former General Secretary and Lok Sabha member, Sudhakar Reddy. Reddy passed away on Saturday at a private hospital in Hyderabad, where he had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments.In a condolence statement issued here, CPI State Secretary G. M. Mizrab described Reddy as a “towering communist leader” who devoted his entire life to the struggles of the downtrodden and the subaltern classes.Mizrab recalled that during his two terms as a Member of Parliament, Reddy consistently raised the issues of the working class and the common people, earning wide respect across political lines. “Reddy’s voice was a strong presence both inside and outside Parliament, where he campaigned relentlessly for the rights of farmers, labourers, and marginalised sections of society,” he said.Highlighting his contribution to the party, Mizrab said that as CPI General Secretary, Reddy played a pivotal role in strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level and expanding its influence among youth and workers. “His political journey, spanning several decades, stood as a testament to his dedication to Marxist ideology and his commitment to building a more equitable society,” he said.“The void left by his demise is irreparable, not only for the CPI but also for the broader Left and democratic movement in the country,” Mizrab added, while extending condolences to Reddy’s family, friends, and comrades.
