Srinagar, Aug 05: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha virtually inaugurated a series of heritage conservation projects undertaken by the Srinagar Smart City Limited. The inaugural event took place at the prestigious Kashmir Art Emporium.
In his address, the Lt Governor commended the efforts of the Srinagar Smart City Limited for their commitment to conserving and restoring heritage buildings, as well as enhancing the overall quality of life for the city’s residents.
Highlighting the significance of these initiatives, he noted that the restoration of the Shri Kathleshwar temple, the conservation of a compendium of heritage buildings, and the restoration of 15 Ghats along the Jhelum River in Shehr-e-Khaas would collectively play a pivotal role in reshaping the urban landscape.
“We must adopt a comprehensive approach to urban rejuvenation. The introduction of a GIS-based survey, Digital Door Numbering, and the illumination of facades at 11 heritage locations will undoubtedly bring positive changes to the lives of the common people. These efforts will not only stimulate sustainable economic activities but also bolster the resilience of Srinagar,” remarked the Lt Governor.
During the inaugural ceremony, the Lt Governor took the opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of the past four years in establishing a governance system characterized by fairness, transparency, accountability, responsiveness, and citizen-centricity in the Union Territory.
He emphasized the government’s resolute actions against corruption and the successful implementation of streamlined public service delivery mechanisms. The Lt Governor expressed his satisfaction in having curbed corruption and dismantled networks supporting the nexus of terrorism and separatism.
“Those who endorse terrorism and separatism obstruct peace and progress on a significant scale. I urge all citizens to collaborate with the Government in eradicating the menace of terrorist-secessionist ideologies and corruption,” urged the Lt Governor.
Reflecting on the current era of peace and harmony, the Lt Governor urged collective responsibility in reshaping society and ensuring proactive governance to enhance the citizens’ quality of life.
The Lt Governor further appealed to the populace to actively participate in the installation of smart electricity meters and extended a warm invitation to all citizens for the forthcoming grand Independence Day celebrations.
The event saw the participation of notable figures including Junaid Azim Mattu, Mayor SMC, and Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary. Also in attendance were Vijay Kumar, ADGP Kashmir; Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Athar Amir Khan, CEO Srinagar Smart City, alongside senior officers, members of the ULB, representatives from the trade fraternity, and civil society members.
