Jammu, June 27: The people of Samba district are struggling with power cuts and water shortages, while the state government remains apathetic to their plight, Congress party’s state vice president and former minister, Yashpal Kundal said on Thursday.
In a statement issued here, he said, “There are continuous protests going on in Samba district regarding the supply of electricity, but the BJP government, which is raining false promises, is sleeping soundly.” He demanded an end to the power cuts to alleviate the suffering of the people.
Kundal expressed disappointment that despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term, the public has been left with “nothing but empty promises”, while electricity and water supplies remain inadequate. The unannounced power cuts have increased public anger towards the PDD department and district administration, he said.
The Congress leader said, “Students and farmers are particularly affected by the lack of electricity, which has disrupted their daily routines. Farmers need electricity to irrigate their crops, but even that is not being considered.” He criticised the electricity department and the UT government for sending full electricity bills despite only providing power for five hours a day.
“For at least two to three months, electricity should be prioritised for residential areas and reduced for industries,” he said, adding, “The BJP government seems to value industry over human life, with the administration caught in a state of power intoxication.”
