Srinagar, Aug 30: In an acknowledgment of their relentless efforts, the volunteers of South Asia Center for Peace and Peoples Empowerment (SACPPE), were felicitated by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Haseeb-ur-Rehman, at Tagore Hall, Srinagar on Friday.
The event marked a moment of pride for the volunteers, who have been at the forefront of combating substance abuse among children and adolescents in Srinagar under SACPPE’s Dekh Baal initiative which is supported by UNICEF, India.
The event witnessed a large turnout of volunteers and responsible citizens, reflecting widespread community support.
In his speech the DIGP Rehman lauded the volunteers for their dedication to a cause that has become increasingly crucial in the region. He emphasized the importance of community-driven efforts in addressing the growing menace of substance abuse, particularly among the youth, and praised the SACPPE’s Dekh Baal initiative for its proactive approach.
“The work done by the SACPPE volunteers under the Dekh Baal initiative is commendable. They have shown that with determination and compassion, significant change is possible. It is our collective responsibility to support and amplify such efforts,” he said.
The Dekh Baal initiative, which focuses on the prevention, rehabilitation, and awareness regarding substance abuse, has gained considerable traction since its inception. The initiative involves a comprehensive strategy that includes outreach programs in schools, counseling sessions, and collaboration with healthcare providers, including IMHANS, GMC Srinagar and Youth Development and Rehabilitation Center for J&K police for treatment referrals.
The felicitation ceremony also served as a platform for discussing further collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community organizations like SACPPE. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and mementos of appreciation to the volunteers, symbolizing their invaluable contribution.
