Srinagar, Oct 17: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday welcomed the decision of the government to enhance the MSP for rabi crops and raise Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for central government employees, which he described as a major “Pre Diwali gift” from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chugh in a statement issued here commended the Modi government for its continued efforts to uplift these key sections of society, mainly the farmers, through its decisions on the MSP hike for Rabi crops and the hike in DA and DR.
The central government has approved an increase in the MSP for six Rabi crops for the 2025-26 marketing season. The MSP for wheat has been set at Rs 2,425 per quintal, an increase of Rs 150 per quintal and rapeseed and mustard have seen the highest increment of Rs 300 per quintal, followed by lentil (masur), an increase of Rs 275 per quintal.
This move will ensure that farmers receive fair prices and boost their financial well-being, while also encouraging crop diversification, especially in oilseeds, and increasing domestic oilseed production,” he said.
The BJP leader thanked PM Modi for the Union Cabinet’s approval of a 3% hike in DA and DR for central government employees and pensioners effective from July 01, 2024. The increase, which raises the DA from 50% to 53% of basic pay, is expected to benefit over one crore central government employees and pensioners.
This decision also includes three months’ worth of DA arrears, providing significant financial relief to these individuals. “This hike will help employees and pensioners improve their financial well-being,” Chugh said. “These measures highlight the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to uplifting both farmers, the backbone of the nation, and central government employees, who play a crucial role in the nation’s workforce.”
