Muzamil Mehmood, a 28-year-old resident of Manchhama village in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, has embarked on a journey of serving society. Following his father’s death. Mehmood continued his father’s legacy and dedicated himself to serving the community, just as his father would do during his lifetime.
Muzamil completed his early education at Govt. Boys Primary School Manchhama; and pursued his degree from Govt. Degree College, Beerwah.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Muzamil Mehmood shared, “When I was in 10th grade, I lost my father, who worked as a labourer and was actively involved in social work in different areas of Beerwah tehsil.”
“After my father’s death, the responsibility of taking care of my mother and two siblings fell on my shoulders. It was challenging to meet the basic needs of my family. Alongside my studies, I took up a part-time job in a private company, working in marketing to earn some money and provide financial support to my family,” Muzamil said.
Mehmood mentioned that upon entering the final year, he began working as a social worker. He initiated programmes such as blood donation camps and free medical camps at his own expense, with the assistance of the sub-division administration of Beerwah. Upon receiving recognition from the people and the sub-division administration of Beerwah, he made the decision to organise more events for school children and young individuals in his area. He reached out to both private and government schools to provide students with various sports activities. These activities included sports tournaments for school children, where participants received trophies and certificates of appreciation.
Additionally, he arranged cricket tournaments for young individuals to keep them engaged in sports and alleviate stress.
Muzamil Mehmood’s primary objective behind these endeavours is to engage the youth in sports activities and demonstrate a path for society to lead a drug-free life, ultimately safeguarding the future generations of the country, particularly in the Kashmir Valley.
He firmly believes that the Kashmir Valley possesses numerous international players and gold medalists, such as Parvaiz Rasool, Umran Malik, Abdul Samad, and Nayeem Malla. If these individuals can excel at the international level, he sees no reason why others cannot achieve the same success at the national and international levels.
Mehmood’s purpose in organising cricket tournaments and various other sports events is to support and encourage the youth. By doing so, he aims to inspire them to participate in sports and various fields, thereby brightening their career prospects and diverting their attention away from drugs towards sports and other professions.
Since 2016, he has tirelessly worked and organised numerous events, including cleanliness drives, blood donation camps, cannabis eradication drives, drug de-addiction programmes, women empowerment events, free medical camps, cricket tournaments, martial arts events, and cycle road races. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he distributed masks and provided free medicine to the underprivileged. He even conducted door-to-door campaigns to raise awareness about COVID-19 precautions.
Muzamil Mehmood, a young and prominent social activist and sports enthusiast, aims to bring about societal change and contribute more to the welfare of the people. He sets a real example of how to be a sensible and responsible member of society. He believes that there is nothing more valuable than being a helping hand to society. Living in a civilized society provides ample opportunities to make a positive impact on the lives of its people.
Muzamil Mehmood has formed a group of young individuals with the aim of fostering positive transformation within the community. Additionally, he is facilitating improved opportunities for promising students to showcase their abilities.
He serves as an exemplary figure for the younger generation and as a source of inspiration for a wider society.
Muzamil has been honored with over 150 certificates of appreciation and trophies from various government departments and non-governmental organizations for his valuable contributions to society. Additionally, he has organized awareness programs and sports events in various villages, attracting senior citizens, young children, and youths to participate. These initiatives aim to educate people on the prevention of drug addiction, promote cyber awareness, and emphasize the importance of education.
