Mumbai, Mar 14: Representing Krunal Pandya led DY Patil Red team, J&K’s explosive batter Abdul Samad sparkled with the willow to guide his side emerge champions in the prestigious DY Patil Invitational T20 Tournament at DY Patil ground, Navi Mumbai.
In the finals against Income Tax, Samad played a power-packed knock of 32 runs in just 13 balls, studded with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
DY Patil Red scored a huge total of 221 runs in 20 overs, while in reply, Income Tax XI managed to score 173 runs, thus DY Patil Red won the match by 48 runs to lift the title trophy.
Earlier, in the semifinals against CAG, Samad showed stellar grit and tenacity to notch up 18-ball 40 runs with one four and 4 massive sixes.
Batting first, DY Patil Red scored 221 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process, while in reply CAG bundled out for paltry 130 runs to lose the match by a big margin of 91 runs.
In the quarterfinals of this prestigious tournament, DY Patil Red got the better of Reliance-1 by 6 wickets.
Batting first, Hardik Pandya led Reliance-1 scored a good total of 186 runs in 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process, while DY Patil Red chased the target in 19.4 overs by losing 4 wickets to win the match by 6 wickets.
Samad scored unbeaten 49 runs off just 31 balls, studded with 4 fours and 3 sixes, guiding his team to 6-wicket victory.
Both Samad and Umran Malik have now joined their Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL team on Thursday.
