BUDGAM: Haleema, a young woman from Shalina in the BK Pora of Budgam district, has endured considerable financial difficulties , however , despite all these obstacles, she has harbored aspirations of becoming self-sufficient and serving as a role model for others.

With no resources at her disposal, Haleema found it challenging to meet the basic needs of her family. Their financial instability was compounded by lack of awareness regarding opportunities that could potentially change their circumstances.

In 2021, Haleema became a member of the Rida Self Help Group (SHG), which offered her essential support and guidance to initiate her dairy farming venture. This marked a pivotal moment in her journey toward self-reliance.

Initially, Haleema secured a VO loan of Rs 50,000 to acquire cows. Motivated by her early success, she later obtained a Rs 6 lakh bank loan through JKRLM in 2023. This funding enabled her to expand her livestock and also to enter the cattle feed market by establishing a shop, investing part of the loan into this new business.

Previously lacking resources and knowledge of available opportunities, Haleema’s financial instability had been a significant barrier. However, her dairy enterprise has significantly improved her family’s economic situation, providing them with a reliable source of income.

Haleema encountered numerous challenges, particularly during the harsh winter months when her cattle were susceptible to various illnesses. She addressed these issues by ensuring consistent care, administering medicine, and giving her cattle the attention they required, which was crucial for both their health and the success of her business.

The dairy business has profoundly changed Haleema’s life. She is now financially independent, generating a stable income from her cow farm and cattle feed shop, allowing her to adequately support her family’s needs. This venture has brought her financial security and stability.

“I have achieved financial independence. I assist my husband with expenses, and I am now self-sustaining. Every woman should pursue independence, regardless of the challenges they encounter,” she stated.

Haleema’s experience illustrates the significant impact that financial assistance, training, and mentorship from JKRLM can have in enabling women to change their circumstances. She motivates other women to cultivate self-confidence and pursue available resources for their empowerment.

Haleema aims to grow her dairy enterprise by incorporating advanced technical equipment, including milking machines, to improve the productivity of her farm. Additionally, she intends to persist in her efforts to uplift other women in her community, providing encouragement through JKRLM.
