Pulwama, Sept 16: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election in-charge for the Jammu & Kashmir assembly polls, Ram Madhav on Monday exuded confidence that the party will form the government in the union territory with a clear majority.
Speaking to the media persons in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, Madhav said Jammu & Kashmir will soon be free from the dominance of three political families associated with the National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress, which he alleged have sought to control the union territory.
“The Jammu division is supporting the BJP, just as it did in the past,” he said, adding that 20 of the party’s candidates are contesting from various areas in Kashmir.
“People have placed their faith in our candidates, and they are showing up in large numbers to support them,” the BJP leader added, citing an example from Shopian, where around 5,000 people participated in a rally for BJP candidate Javid Qadri.
Madhav further said that people in Kashmir are increasingly interested in hearing and understanding the BJP’s message. “Soon there will be a big change in Jammu & Kashmir,” he said, expressing confidence that some of the BJP’s candidates from Kashmir will emerge victorious and represent their constituencies in the assembly.
Highlighting the party’s agenda, Ram Madhav said the BJP is focused on eradicating terrorism and dynasty politics in the region, ensuring development and boosting tourism. “We are contesting the elections in Jammu & Kashmir with this agenda,” he said.
While Madhav asserted that the BJP would secure a majority, he also said the party is open to collaborating with “like-minded” political groups.
He criticised the Congress party, saying it lacks a presence in Jammu & Kashmir and is relying on the NC to win elections.
According to him, the Congress has not released its election manifesto for Jammu & Kashmir because it is aligning itself with the NC’s “regressive” manifesto, which, he claimed, advocates for the release of jailed terrorists and a return of terrorism to the region.
