Baramulla, Sept 28: Former chief minister and National Conference vice president, Omar Abdullah said on Saturday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting to divide the electorate to establish its own government in the region.
Speaking to reporters during a workers’ convention in the Gulmarg Constituency, Omar said that during the first and second phases of the elections held in south and central Kashmir, they left no option for the BJP. “The turnout in south and central Kashmir has been high, with voters choosing alliance candidates,” he said.
He expressed hope that voters in north Kashmir would follow suit on October 1, 2024, urging them to support the National Conference (NC) and the Indian National Congress (INC).
The former CM said, “You cannot separate the party’s manifesto and aims from the candidate. An honest and capable candidate is essential.”
Omar said they have released a strong manifesto for the Gulmarg Assembly constituency and are confident in their candidate’s success.
When asked about BJP leader Ravindra Raina’s statement regarding the next Chief Minister of J&K being from his party, Abdullah responded, “Ravindra Raina should focus on protecting his own seat. We have reports from the Nowshera Assembly constituency indicating that Surinder Kumar Choudhary is winning against Raina. If he cannot secure his own seat, why is he discussing the formation of the government in J&K?”
