Qazigund, Jan 27: The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi entered Kashmir Valley for its last leg on Friday afternoon through the new tunnel on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway at Qazigund.
Hundreds of party workers, supporters and top politicians from Congress who were waiting to receive Rahul Gandhi joined the Yatra at Banihal on Friday morning.
The rally was also joined by a number of supporters and workers from different party lines at Navyugha Tunnel at Wazur here in Qazigund.
Several party leaders of National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also joined the yatra at Banihal and Qazigund.
The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah joined Rahul at Banihal. Abdullah copied the dressing style of Rahul Gandhi by wearing a half sleeves white T-Shirt amid sub-zero temperatures in Kashmir Valley.
The half sleeves T-shirt became a subject of debate on social media as the congress leader was trolled for wearing the shirt in winter season.
“The Bharat Joda yatra is equally important for the valley as it was for the rest of India. And there is a good enthusiasm in people here in the valley as well,” Abdullah told reporters before joining yatra.
He said, “I don’t think the yatra is to make a better image of an individual and it is more about uniting India.”
The party workers and supporters of Rahul Gandhi were very excited to get a glimpse of him as they waited in the Kashmir side of the tunnel on Friday morning.
A party worker told Rising Kashmir, “I am here with my other colleagues only to see Rahul Ji for the first time. We are here to support him,” he added.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra started from Kanyakumari in September 2022 and will end in Srinagar on January 30, 2023.
