Srinagar, Feb 10: Secretary Health & Medical Education, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah on Saturday visited Government Medical College Baramulla to inspect its functioning and assess the medical facilities provided there.
During the visit, the Secretary discussed several issues the medical college faces like manpower and infrastructure with the concerned stakeholders. He said that the medical college is the biggest health institution in north Kashmir which not only caters to Baramulla but also the patients of neighbouring districts as well.
“We did a comprehensive inspection of the hospital and interacted with the doctors, paramedics, nurses and other relevant stakeholders and patients,” Shah said.
The Secretary discussed the issues and problems faced by patients like shortage of manpower and infrastructure development which need to be augmented. “I think we all need to work out collectively to resolve the issues for the betterment of medical education and patient care and strengthen the institution,” he said.
The Secretary said the stronger the health institutions, the better the healthcare for the people would be. “I am confident that in times to come all the new medical colleges especially GMC Baramulla and GMC Handwara will become among the best medical colleges we have in the country,” he said.
Dr Abid said they are committed to providing comprehensive care to people including state-of-the-art diagnostic setup, management and follow-up of all types of patients.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to delivering the best possible treatment and health facilities to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Secretary was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, Principal GMC Baramulla, Dr Rubi Reshi and other concerned officers and officials.
The newly established medical college’s associated hospital has been in the news as it faces a shortage of manpower which was affecting its day-to-day work.
