Srinagar, Mar 19: Badam Vaer, a centuries-old almond garden in Srinagar, has emerged as a major tourist attraction, drawing visitors from across the country with its breathtaking almond blossoms and peaceful ambiance. Nestled at the foothills of Hari Parbat, this historic garden, once neglected, has been beautifully restored and is now hailed as a must-visit destination.
Muhammad Yunus, a tourist from Bihar, expressed his delight: “We found Badam Vaer even better than the Mughal Gardens. The peace and beauty here are unmatched. It’s the perfect escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.”
Vivek Sharma, a visitor from Delhi, called it “one of the most stunning attractions in Srinagar.”
With almond trees in full bloom, Badam Vaer presents a mesmerising look, making it a paradise for nature lovers and photographers alike. The delicate pink and white blossoms create a dreamy atmosphere and the garden’s traditional Kashmiri-style layout enhances its aesthetic appeal.
Besides tourists, the garden has become a favorite spot for locals seeking relaxation amidst nature. Families, students, and elderly visitors can be seen strolling along its well-maintained pathways, enjoying the fresh air and scenic beauty. “We find solace in the garden. I have come along with my family to spend a day in the garden,” said Farooq Ahmed Mir of Tangmarg, Baramulla.
Badam Vaer holds a special place in Kashmir’s history. Originally developed by Empress Noor Jahan during the Mughal era, the garden was once a flourishing retreat adorned with almond trees, fountains and scenic walkways. Over the years, it fell into neglect, losing its former glory. However, recent restoration efforts by the administration and tourism department have revived its splendor, making it a key cultural and ecological landmark in Srinagar.
With increasing footfall, the garden is now competing with the famed Mughal gardens of Srinagar, such as Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh. The tourism department is actively promoting Badam Vaer as part of Kashmir’s heritage tourism circuit, further enhancing its appeal. As the almond trees continue to bloom, Badam Vaer stands as a testament to Kashmir’s natural beauty and rich cultural history, offering visitors a serene escape in the heart of the city.
