Rajouri , Aug 29: Thakur Randhir Singh who is BJP’s candidate from Kalakote-Sunderbani assembly constituency on Thursday termed the recent terrorist ac-tivities in the Rajouri as an attempt to disturb the upcoming Assembly elec-tions in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Polling will take place from the third week of September in Jammu and Kash-mir, nearly after a decade.
Lashing out at Pakistan for fomenting trouble in J&K, the BJP candidate told ANI, “Such cowardly acts from Pakistan have always had the intention to dis-turb us. They caused trouble in J&K, our youths were killed and devoid of edu-cation.”
The BJP candidate claimed that today there is peace in Kashmir and people are going about their normal business, unlike in the past, marred by stone pelting and strikes.
“During militancy, there used to be frequent calls for shutdowns followed stone-pelting in Kashmir. Today, there is peace in Kashmir, and everyone is doing their work. Everyone talks about development, and not terrorism, today. But Pakistan has continued with its actions. This is an attempt to disturb the upcoming elections,” he added.
A search operation is underway in the Rajouri district after an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and security forces on August 28, officials said.
Singh expressed confidence that the people will vote in favour of BJP in Ra-jouri and Poonch areas.
The BJP leader added, “But I think people have made up their minds, they will participate in large numbers, and elect their desired candidates. I think people are going to make BJP victorious in Rajouri and Poonch areas…”
Earlier on Wednesday, Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, Army Commander Northern Command accompanied by the 16 Corps Commander, Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva visited forward areas along the line of control in Sunderbani Sector to review the prevalent security situation. He was briefed on the synergy be-tween Security Forces and Operational preparedness in the region. The Army Commander also visited supporting units of the formation.
The Army Commander along with GoC Romeo Force, Major General Manish Gupta also visited troops in the hinterland and was briefed on the operational preparedness and security situation in the region. The Army Commander complimented the troops and exhorted all ranks to maintain high morale and professionalism for future challenges. (ANI)
