Srinagar, May 12: Sub District Hospital Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today conducted a unique surgery of Gallazie Fracture of a high risk patient with multiple comorbidities, health officials said.
The surgery was done under PMJAY Scheme by Orthopaedic Department with support of Department of Radiology and Anaesthesia under the supervision of Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sopore.
BMO Sopore, Dr Zulfiqar Nabi said at the Sopore hospital many orthopaedic surgeries are now conducted under PMJAY scheme under the supervision of Dr Prince, Head orthopedician, Dr Sameer, Head Anaesthetist and the team.
“Almost 10 surgeries are being conducted per week routinely here including trauma replacement and deformity correction surgeries,” he said.
Notably, amongst other cases, the unique surgery of Fracture Gallazie high risk patient with comorbidity was done under PMJAY scheme free of cost.
The surgery was conducted by Dr Suhail Nazir, Anaesthetist, Dr Kashif and DNB, Dr Naresh assisted by Aadil, under the supervision of theatre incharge Amjad Ahmad.
“This was made possible only with our competent Radiology Department and laboratory assistance and dynamic PMJAY team under the quality leadership of BMO Sopore,” he said.
The BMO said that when people will be aware of such procedures at SDH level they will come forward for such types of surgeries instead of going to the private sector which is costly and unaffordable for many patients.
“In SDH Sopore different types of orthopaedic surgeries are now routinely done which include different complex orthopaedic trauma surgeries where modern implants like dynamic compression plate (DCP), Legg-Calvé-Perthes Syndrome (LCPS), PFN Nail (Proximal Femoral Nail), dynamic hip screw (DHS), Bipolar’s are provided to patients under PMJAY free of cost,” he said.
The Block Medical Officer said apart from this, many other common plus cold orthopaedic cases are done on daily basis.
He also said that the hospital already conducts surgeries in ENT Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, General Surgeries and the lower segment Caesarean section (LSCS) are conducted 24/7 at the hospital.
