Srinagar, April 06: The Asmita Khelo India Women’s Pencak Silat League, a pioneering initiative to promote women’s sports in India, was formally inaugurated Sunday at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor stadium Srinagar. The ceremony was graced by esteemed guests Shri Sarmad Hafeez, IAS, Chief Guest and Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Guest of Honor.
The league, part of the Khelo India programme, aims to empower women athletes and foster a culture of sports excellence in the country. The Pencak Silat tournament brings together talented women athletes from across India, providing a platform for them to showcase their skills and compete at a national level. The event was held under the banner of Sports Authority of India organised by Indian Pencak Silat Federation and Pencak Silat Association of J&K and under aegis of J&K Sports Council

– Chief Guest’s Address: Sarmad Hafeez, emphasised the importance of promoting women’s sports and empowering women athletes in India.
– Guest of Honor’s Remarks: Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, highlighted the significance of sports in promoting women’s empowerment and overall development.
– Inaugural Ceremony: The ceremony included a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a showcase of Pencak Silat techniques by participating athletes.
