Srinagar, June 18: Member Parliament and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah on Sunday described the Amarnath Yatra as a symbol of brotherhood in the Kashmir Valley.
He said those spreading hatred in the country should witness how both communities including Muslims and Hindus in Kashmir come together to support each other for the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.
Talking to the reporters, Dr Farooq urged those who propagate hatred to observe the camaraderie and cooperation between Muslims and Hindus during the yatra.
He emphasized the importance of the Amarnath Yatra for the livelihood of the local population, particularly those who work during the pilgrimage season, saying the earnings from this period sustain them through the winter months.
Responding to the concerns about shortages of water, electricity, and food grains, Abdullah said such issues are common every year, and the government should address these problems promptly.
