In what could be called a successful attempt to recreate a 3 Idiots movie scene in real life, Paramedical satff at a government hospital in Keran, Kupwara, delivered a baby while coordinating with the doctor over a WhatsApp call.

Aamir Khan and his friends tasted success doing this in the 2009 blockbuster movie, and the scene was successfully recreated by the staff at this faraway hospital.

A health official told Rising Kashmir, On Friday, a woman from Mandian, Keran, complained of labour pain and was taken to a nearby PHC center.

Where the on-duty doctors directed her to visit SDH Kupwara for delivery. However, due to heavy snowfall in the area for many days, the road leading to Kupwara was blocked.

The doctors at this NTPHC brought the matter to the attention of BMO Kralpora, who contacted his senior officials, and, despite hectic efforts to arrange a chopper service to take her to Kupwara, due to heavy snowfall, the chopper service was not possible.

When Block Medical Officer Kralpora Dr. Mir Mad Shafi did not see any hope to shift the patient from there due to heavy snowfall, he asked the medical staff posted in Karen to come on a Whatsapp call to save the patient’s life, after which he called Sub District Hospital Kupwara on a DTS app video call.

The gynecologist posted in SDH Kupwara guided the doctor and paramedical staff in Karen to deliver the said woman, after which the woman gave birth to the baby.

The BMO Kralpora told Rising Kashmir that their priority was to save the patient, and there was no option left other than to guide them to staff on call, as we prefer such surgeries to be held in the sub-district hospital in Kupwara.

“I was in touch with the staff and working in far flung areas is a different experience and needs a courage and dedication, he added

However, the doctor said that by the grace of almighty Allah, the surgery was conducted successfully, and both the baby and mother are doing well.
