Gulmarg, Feb 11:RR Bhatnagar, advisor to LG visited Gulmarg to facilitate students of a special batch of 20 skiers of six Sigma high altitude medical services professionals who qualified in a special 7-day beginners ski course at Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering (IISM). Six sigma is a Delhi based private search and rescue mission in high mountains lead by Dr. Pradeep Bhardwaj who is its CEO cum MD.
Col J S Dhillon welcomed the guests and briefed them about the institute’s journey from being a defunct institute to be the one of the best ski school of SE Asia. He said that though he still faces certain challenges in training due to its defunct defunct chair lift but his standards of training and training are the best in the country. He said institute trains students to not only develop a skill of adventure but creates employment opportunities for them in tourism sector as guides/ instructors/entrepreneurs. Students from all over the country join IISM who become ambassadors of Kashmir to attract tourists. He emphasized the need to have many more such institutes to cater to the huge demand of the adventure tourism. He requested the Hon’ble advisor to homologize Gulmarg slopes so that qualifying races could be held there after registration with FIS. As our athletes can’t afford to join expensive qualifying races abroad, their talent and dreams get buried in the snow.
Dr P Bhardwaj briefed the advisor about the various rescue and medical aid camps undertaken by Six sigma high altitude medical services in Himalayas and the need to train more teams so that they could reach to the far-flung accident areas without any difficulty. He appreciated the efforts of Col JS Dhillon and his team to impart an excellent ski training to his team who will be more effective in search and rescue missions in remote Himalayan regions. He requested the advisor to allot some land in Kashmir where they can bring investment to train more persons of the country and provide free medical services to the people from remote mountain areas as also help to skill youth of the nation to meet huge demand of adventure tourism.
RR Bhatnagar gave the certificates of success to trainees of six sigma and complimented them for their selfless services to save lives of thousands of helpless people in remote high altitude areas who become victims of avalanches, landslides and other natural calamities. He said that after this course you all will be the ambassadors of Kashmir and will share your experience with your peers about the beauty of Kashmir and hospitality of Kashmiri people. He appreciated the efforts of Col Dhillon and his staff to maintain a very high standard of training and administration. He said Institute is the best platform to develop bonding amongst the youth of the nation and promote winter sports.
He promised all help to Dr. Bhardwaj from UT Govt to provide all possible assistance to facilitate their noble cause. He asked the CEO six sigma to put up a proposal to set up a training school and help centers for people of Kashmir who need such help in remote areas. As suggested by Col Dhillon, he also promised to implement the proposal of homologation of Gulmarg slopes and get them registered with international ski federation to facilitate the local athletes to shine in international events.
