Bandipora, Feb 16: The Bandipora District administration on Thursday accomplished an arduous operation after airlifting a critically ill female patient from Gujran village in Gurez valley, located close to the Line of Control.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora told Rising Kashmir that a chopper was promptly dispatched upon receiving a distress call regarding the sick lady in the hard-to-reach village of Gujran of Tulail who needed to be evacuated swiftly for proper medical care.
He said after extensive preparation and meticulous planning with helicopter services company ARYANS, the helicopter was able to land in Gujran village and the patient was successfully evacuated.
Owais stated that the operation was carried for the first time due to the remote location of the village in the Gurez Valley, its proximity to the Line of Control, and its susceptibility to avalanches with more than ten feet of snow blocking the village from the rest of the world.
Consequently, the patient was airlifted from Gurez to Bandipora where a critical care ambulance was stationed near the helipad and then patient was shifted to the District Hospital Bandipora for treatment.
The doctors stationed at the Health Centre said that the patient was in urgent need of medical assistance, which was not available in the remote village.
Giving details of evacuation of passengers on Thursday Owais said, the Bandipora district administration facilitated the airlifting of 44 passengers between Gurez and Bandipora, with priority given to patients and students who had to appear in exams.
Seventeen passengers were airlifted from Bandipora to Gurez, and the same number were airlifted from Gurez to Bandipora, he said.
He stated that five passengers were airlifted from Bandipora to Gujran, three passengers were airlifted from Gujran to Bandipora, and two passengers were also transported from Neeru to Bandipora.
