GDC Baramulla launches ISRO START training prog on solar system exploration

Baramulla, Apr 24: The Government Degree College Baramulla (Autonomous) inaugurated the two-week ISRO START Training Programme 2024 on “Exploration of the Solar System” to provide a comprehensive understanding of the solar system, Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) role, and its future prospects.
The program witnessed the participation of research scholars, faculty members, and over 40 students from various disciplines, both in-person and virtually.
Distinguished speakers including Dr Shantanu Bhatawdekar, Scientific Secretary of ISRO, Dr T.P. Das from ISRO HQ, Bangalore, AS Kiran Kumar, Chair of the Apex Science Board, and Prof Tariq Chalkoo, Dean of Skill Development & HoD Physics of the college, discussed various aspects of space exploration.
In his welcoming address, Professor Dr Mohammad Farooq Rather, Principal of the College, talked about the importance of space missions and their potential for tourism and exploration. He underscored the crucial role of educational institutions in preparing students for the expanding opportunities in the space sector.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr S. Somanath, Chairman of ISRO / Secretary of DOS, said ISRO plays a pivotal role in solar system exploration. He encouraged participants to leverage the program to develop a passion for space science and research.
Dr Syed Mutahhar Aaqib, Coordinator of the ISRO START Training Programme 2024, provided insights into the program’s objectives, stressing the relevance of ISRO’s data for students and researchers.
The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Prof Rizwan Fareed Khan, Head of the Department of Management Studies, and Prof Zahid Ahmad Wani, Member of ISRO START 2024, who provided technical support.
This initiative marks a significant milestone for GDC Baramulla, which has also been designated as a Nodal Training Centre by IIRS Dehradun for the conduct of the START 2024 Programme.
