Srinagar, April 21: A two-year-old girl died and her grandmother suffered burn injuries in a fire incident that broke out in a residential house in Tarzoo village of north Kashmir’s Sopore area on Sunday.
The deceased minor was identified as Rida daughter of Tanveer Ahmad Lone resident of Wanigam Pattan and her grandmother Rafiqa Begum also suffered injuries while trying to save her in the fire incident.
A senior official at Fire and Emergency Service said that fire broke out in a two-storied house in the Tarzoo village at around 1.10 PM Sunday and after that a fire dousing team was sent to douse the flames.
“After few hours, fire was brought under control and during the operation, 1 minor died and her grandmother suffered injuries. The duo was shifted to a nearby health facility where doctors declared Rida dead. However, they said Rafiqa is stable and recovering.
The official said that a minor was sleeping inside the “Hamam” room and a fire incident had occurred due to a short circuit and not due to gas leakage.
Bilal Ahmad, eyewitness of incident told Rising Kashmir that around 12:30 PM, the incident occurred due to short circuit and although locals tried to douse the flames but to wooden work it was unstopped. Unfortunately, it spread to the entire house and left a minor dead.
“After Eid ul Fitr, Rida had recently come to visit her maternal Uncle in Tarzoo village and she was sleeping in the Hamam room when this incident occurred. Her grandmother tried to save her but was injured in the unfortunate incident,” he said.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case and further investigation is underway in the case.
After the incident, hundreds of people from nearby villages consoled the family in Sopore, while on Sunday late evening, the minor was laid to rest.
