Wildlife Week, 2022: Debates, competitions, events to be held to mark Wildlife week celebrations: Officials

Srinagar, Oct 03: Following the commencement of 68th Wildlife week on 02 Oct to 08 Oct, officials at the Department of Wildlife Protection, J&K on Monday said that a series of programmes and events are scheduled to be hosted, to highlight the importance of the wildlife, wetlands and to draw attention to the conservation status of the most critically endangered species of wild fauna and flora.
Wildlife Warden Wetlands Ifshan Dewan told Rising Kashmir that to observe wildlife Week their department has aligned a series of events which includes awareness programmes, cleanliness drives, debates, and other programmes.
“The purpose of the weeklong celebrations is to highlight the importance of wildlife, wetlands, with special emphasis on the preservation of wildlife and their habitat”, she said.
The official said that the weeklong programmes are in collaboration with the school education department, locals, and NGOs associated with the preservation of wildlife and wetlands in the valley.
“As a part of the observance of weeklong Wildlife Week, a special programme was organized at Hokersar Wetland in which students from nearby government schools participated. The event included an awareness programme and also a cleanliness drive on the lawns of wetland”, she added. 
Wildlife warden wetlands said that not just for the ongoing scheduled wildlife Week, they would continue the awareness programmes with special emphasis on the wetlands and the safety of migratory birds who stay in wetlands.
Notably, on Sunday, the Department of Wildlife Protection, J&K organized and celebrated its inaugural function at Nature Interpretation Centre, Dachigam National Park. At the beginning of the event, a cleanness drive was organized by one of the participating schools.
Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir Region Rashid Y. Naqash, who was the Chief Guest on occasion, said that the department is actively working on the larger participation of people at the grassroots level in understanding nature and environmental issues.
