Pulwama, Dec 04: A plethora of activities were carried out in different areas of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district since the past week in connection with Shehri Jan Abhiyan, a prelude to the “My Town My Pride” programme. The second phase of MTMP will be held on December 5 and 6 (Monday and Tuesday).
During the Shehri Jan Abhiyan, the officers, officials and employees of various departments held several events and activities at the Pampore, Awantipora and Tral areas of Pulwama.
The activities undertaken include the distribution of sports kits, school bags, plantation drives, awareness programmes about various government schemes, sanctioning of certificates and letters, issuance of income and domicile certificates and land pass books to beneficiaries.
On Saturday, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Baseer ul Haq Chaudhry visited the MC Pulwama and MC Pampore where he took part in various activities and inspected various arrangements made for service delivery of common people. He said “My Town My Pride” is an initiative to strengthen Urban Local Self-Governance and to serve the people with responsive, accountable and participatory governance. “The programme has three main objectives: inclining public outreach in towns, strengthening grassroots democracy and service delivery at doorsteps,” he said.
The DC appealed to the people to be part of the decision-making process and decide about utilisation of funds meant for the development of their wards by participating in ward meetings during ‘My Town My Pride’ programme. “People should meet and discuss their development issues and prioritise works as per the need, and develop an action plan for their own wards,” he said.
Chaudhry said My Town My Pride is on the lines of the recently-concluded ‘Back to Village’ programme for providing doorstep delivery of different government services to town dwellers. He asked all the concerned officers to work in tandem and coordination so that people get benefit from the new initiative of the government.
