Anantnag, May 8:Authorities launched a combined rescue effort on Monday in response to a distress call received at Nawkan, close to Margan Top in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
According to an official, over 75 people and 1500 livestock were stranded due to adverse weather.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag Sarib Sahran informed Rising Kashmir that teams were dispatched to rescue people and livestock trapped in the snow.
“The joint teams have successfully rescued around 75 people and approximately 1500 livestock and transported them to Gawran. They are receiving medical care, food, shelter, and all necessary care from administration, police, CRPF, and others,” he stated.
As a precaution, he stated, “We have established a temporary shelter at Gawran, as well as a medical camp through the army.”

According to an official, the operation was being monitored by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, while SDM Kokernag was directing the rescue operation from Gawran.

Meanwhile, the routes leading to Sinthan and Margan passes have been closed to vehicular traffic. The restriction will stay in effect on May 8th and 9th due to inclement weather, as advised by Tehsildar Larnoo, Kokernag.
