Srinagar, July 18: The excitement was palpable at the Sher e Kashmir Indoor Sports Council, Srinagar, as the J&K Carrom Association successfully organized the District Srinagar Carrom Championship 2023-24 in collaboration with the District Srinagar Carrom Association and with the support of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council. The championship, held under the banner of “My Youth My Pride,” aims to promote and flourish the game of carrom in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
Over the course of two days, on July 18th and 19th, 2023, the tournament witnessed intense competition among 165 players from various schools, colleges, and clubs across the district of Srinagar. A total of 74 matches were played in different categories, including cadets, sub-juniors, juniors, and seniors, featuring both boys and girls as well as men and women.
The event’s opening ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Mohammad Iqbal, Manager of SKISC, Srinagar, Adil Rashid Shah, President of Jammu & Kashmir Carrom, Arif Sultan, Vice President of Jammu & Kashmir Carrom Association, Dawar Rashid, Organizing Secretary of the Event, and Abida Mehraj, President of the Srinagar Carrom Association.
In the senior men’s category, Furqan Nazir emerged victorious against Nisar Ahmad, while Hilal Bashir defeated Hashim Aslam. Yasoob, Arsalan Mehraj, and Shahid Ahmad also secured impressive wins against Mir Daniyal, Numan, and Izham, respectively.
The senior women’s category saw fierce competition, with Ridda Maddni prevailing over Khan Shaheena, and Mehak Nabi and Azra Imtiyaz securing wins against Aqsa and Afifa, respectively.
In the junior boys’ category, Zaid Bin Ajaz emerged victorious against Ibrahim Parvaiz, and Raheen Khan and Saleem Jan secured wins against Shoeb Amin and Syed Rahil, respectively. Hafid also showcased his carrom skills with a triumph against Afaan.
The junior girls’ category witnessed intense battles, with Zainab Suhail defeating Hadiya and Haleefa emerging victorious against Safa. Barren and Amarjot Kour also displayed exceptional talent during their matches.
The tournament has not only provided a platform for talented carrom players to showcase their skills but has also contributed to the promotion of the sport across the region.
The J&K Carrom Association expressed gratitude to the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council for their support and pledged to continue organizing such events in the future to nurture the budding talent in the Union Territory.
