A Lashker-e-Toiba terrorist was killed in an encounter with joint team of police, army and paramilitary CRPF in Baramulla district, officials said on Saturday.
A Police spokesperson said, “Acting on a specific input regarding the presence of terrorist in Karhama, Kunzer area of Baramulla, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (2nd RR) and CRPF (176 Bn) in the said area.”
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.”
The Spokesperson said that in the ensuing encounter, a local terrorist linked with proscribed terrorist outfit LeT was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Abid Wani son of Mohd Rafiq Wani resident of Yarhol Babapora Kulgam.
“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK-47 rifle was recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation”, he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that 03 LeT terrorists have been killed in past 48 hours in Baramulla district in two separate anti-terrorist operations.
In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any.
