Srinagar, Oct 17: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday condemned the attack on a hospital in Gaza which killed at least 500 people.
Gaza’s Hamas-run Health Ministry blamed an Israeli airstrike for the explosion, but Israel said the blast was caused by a misfired Palestinian rocket.
Sharing a video report on Tuesday’s explosion in Al-Ahli hospital on X, Mehbooba urged the “powers that be” to not be “mute bystanders”.
“The US and other countries are watching as mute spectators. If it continues as such, then peace in the world peace will be affected, because you are pushing the people to the wall,” she said.
The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said it is time that the Palestine issue is resolved.
Chairman Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad in a statement expressed “utter shock and sadness” at the tragic loss of innocent lives caused by the assault on the Al-Ahli Baptist hospital in Gaza, denouncing it “without reservation”.
Azad has appealed for urgent concerted global action aimed at deescalating the crisis in order to alleviate the distress and suffering. He also called for securing the necessary provisions of humanitarian assistance to be permitted into Gaza.
CPI(M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami in a statement said, “The horrific situation unfolding in Gaza raises the spectre of Nakba. The bombing of a hospital resulting in the killing of 500 people is a heinous act, unimaginable in the modern world. The international community must rise up against such war crimes.”
