Srinagar, Sep 20: Prominent politician Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) on Wednesday voiced his deep resentment over the recent travel advisory issued by the Canadian government which advised its citizens to exercise caution when travelling to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, Mir expressed his astonishment at the advisory, stating that it is quite perplexing given the significant positive changes that Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed in terms of peace, stability and development in recent times.
“This is an utter absurdity and a whimsical statement, which seems to be aimed at presenting a gloomy picture of our region. Tourism is thriving, peace is palpable, and developmental projects are progressing at an unprecedented pace. At a time when all of this is happening, Canada’s attempt to tarnish the image of J&K’s region is both outrageous and unacceptable,” he emphasised.
Zaffer called upon the Central government to discuss with Canadian officials and hold them accountable for making irresponsible statements that are deliberately made to tarnish the global perception of Jammu and Kashmir.
The travel advisory by Canada has drawn mixed reactions from various quarters, with many highlighting the positive developments and transformation the region has witnessed in recent years.
