Srinagar, Aug 24: The trial run of 6 e-buses, procured under the smart city project, began in Srinagar on Thursday, covering four routes.
The trial run of these buses started from Lal Chowk to Nishat, returning via Foreshore road.
Monitoring the trial run of these buses, CEO of Srinagar Smart City Limited, Athar Aamir Khan, stated that these buses will play a major role in alleviating traffic congestion. He mentioned that this mode of transportation is both affordable and reliable for the public.
He further explained that these buses are equipped with 5 CCTVs, panic buttons, and air conditioning. Additionally, these buses are fitted with a proper wheelchair lift to accommodate specially-abled people.
Notably, it was previously reported that the Jammu and Kashmir administration has procured 200 e-buses, with 100 designated for each of the Jammu and Srinagar cities.
These air-conditioned buses, equipped with internal CCTVs, are being acquired under the Smart City project. The trial will continue for several days to assess the vehicles and identify any necessary modifications. Following the conclusion of the trial, the buses will formally commence operations within Srinagar city.
Addressing a query, the CEO of the Smart City project in Srinagar assured that there will be no issues of overloading in the buses. The cameras will also perform headcounts to prevent overloading in the city.
Moreover, these buses will feature digital on-boarding facilities and live tracking, allowing passengers to stay informed about bus arrival timings. As the trial run began on Thursday, the city’s residents held hope that it would mitigate traffic congestion, especially during evening hours.
They anticipate that these buses will adhere to their designated routes, putting an end to chaotic scenes, including those at locations like Jahangir Chowk, during the evenings.
