J&K Govt rules out rehiring of contractual lecturers in SED

Srinagar, Mar 30: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said there is no proposal under consideration to rehire contractual lecturers or teachers in the School Education Department. The response came to a question raised by MLA Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir in the Legislative Assembly. The member had sought details on whether the government was planning to re-engage contractual lecturers, many

of whom had served during difficult periods, and whether there was any move to absorb them into regular services. In its reply, the government said that earlier, lecturers were engaged only on an academic arrangement basis for specific academic sessions. However, since 2019, no such engagements have been made by the department. The government further stated that at present, Cluster Resource

Coordinators are being hired under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme 2023 to address any shortage of teaching staff in high and higher secondary schools. It said these engagements are purely temporary and strictly based on requirement and demand. On the issue of regularisation, the reply made it clear that there is no plan to absorb contractual lecturers into government service.
