Srinagar, Oct 22: Senior Congress leader and CWC Member Tariq Hameed Karra on Sunday said Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ has not only set a political narrative but has also instilled hope among people across the country.
“He (Rahul Gandhi) is being looked as a saviour of J&K people also from economic, cultural, religious and administrative oppression, suppression and repression of the present dispensation, which is hell-bent upon to undermine the authority of democratic institutions, besides looting public money and adopt countess anti-people and undemocratic measures for the lust of power,” Karra said while addressing a workers’ meeting in Batamaloo area of Srinagar.
Prior to the meeting, Karra led a march of party workers from Ziyarat Batamalloo, which lies in the heart of the city, to the meeting venue, where he was given a rousing reception by the party workers and locals, according to a party statement issued here.
Addressing the meeting, Tariq said, “J&K is facing an ugliest situation leading to suffocation and chaos amongst the public. Reorganization of the full-fledged state was the biggest assault on the unique identity of J&K. Apparently, the BJP government at the Centre is punishing people under the garb of various anti-people measures and by enacting different laws without any consultation or evolving a consensus. The Reorganization led to suppression and oppression of people and not allowing them to raise their heads against suspension of the constitution in J&K done by the BJP government at the Centre.”
Referring to the current situation, Karra said one fails to understand why the elections are not being conducted in J&K. “On the one hand the situation is congenial for holding Lok Sabha elections, but not good for ULB and assembly elections making it a mockery of democracy, which is very disappointing and reflects the frustration and nervousness on the part of BJP,” he said, adding, “BJP’s policies and agenda is based on lies, deceit and a manoeuvre to keep people away from their democratic rights to ensure that there is no obstacle in ruling J&K directly from the Centre.”
The former J&K minister slammed the BJP government for the current “chaotic” situation in the absence of the democratic set-up in the union territory. He accused the BJP of having suspended the Constitution in J&K while daring it to adopt the same process in other states.
“You cannot take such drastic measures in other states,” Karra told the BJP leadership and questioned how long the people of J&K will remain disconnected and away from their democratic rights. “How long J&K will be treated as a laboratory where BJP-RSS is in the habit of making experiments and then misleading people on the Reorganization of the princely state, abrogation of Art 370 and so-called development which is nowhere to be seen,” he said.
Karra further added, “Rahul Gandhi’s uncompromising fight against the loot of public money, suspension of Constitution, assault on democratic institutions and vendetta politics is set to bring the nation out of morass and confusion created by the BJP for the lust of power.”
Tariq appealed to the people to support the Congress Party in its “tireless efforts to put an end to the BJP’s nefarious designs and hate politics”.
