Srinagar, Sept 26: Pulling off a major success in anti-terror operations, security forces on Tuesday unearthed two terror modules in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district by arresting an LeT terrorist and eight terror associates, including two women.
The police officials revealed that the terrorists were involved in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition.
Addressing a press conference , Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, Amod Nagpure, said that police alongwith security forces arrested one terrorist and 8 terrorist associates linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT/ TRF.
He said that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.
“The terrorist associates were involved in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan-based terror handlers and its further distribution to Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists for carrying out terror activities,” he said.
Briefing about the details, SSP said that on September 21, police, through reliable sources came to know that one individual namely Yaseen Ahmad Shah son of Tariq Ahmad resident of Janbazpora Baramulla is missing from his home and has joined proscribed terror outfit LeT/ TRF.
“Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law was registered in police station Baramulla and investigation was taken up,” he said.
Nagpure said on receipt of this information, based on human/technical intelligence, a joint team of Baramulla Police, Army & CAPF during MVCP checking at Tapper Pattan apprehended the said terrorist on 22nd September.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one Pistol, one Pistol Magazine and eight live rounds were recovered from his possession,” he said.
SSP Baramulla said that during questioning, he disclosed the name of his other associate as Parvaiz Ahmad Shah son of Ali Mohd resident of Takiya Wagoora.
“Accordingly, joint parties of Baramulla Police, Army & CAPF raided his residence and subsequently arrested him. Upon his disclosure, two Hand Grenades were also recovered from his possession,” he said.
Again on 23 September, during the further course of interrogation of terrorist Mohd Yaseen Shah and on his disclosure, one Pistol, one Pistol Magazine & eight live rounds were also recovered from his house at Janbazpora.
” Further he disclosed the names of his associates as Nigeena Wife of Manzoor Ahmad Lone resident of Vijipora Hajin and Aafreena alias Aayat daughter of Gulzar Ahmad Ganie R/O Patpora Shalteng Srinagar and upon their disclosure 2 hand grenades were recovered from their possession,” SSP said.
On Monday, during further questioning of Shah and Ahmad, they disclosed the names of two more associates as Mudasir Ahmad Rather, resident of Takiya Wagoora, and Showkat Ahmad Malik, resident of Wagila Wagoora, the police officer said.
Upon their disclosure, he said, a Chinese grenade, a pistol, a pistol magazine and eight live rounds were recovered from their possession.
The investigation has revealed that the terrorist along with his five associates were operating on the directions from Pakistan-based handlers and were planning to recruit more terrorists and carry out terrorist activities in Baramulla and nearby areas, the SSP added.
A case under sections of UA(P) and Arms Act has been registered and further investigation is going on.
In another operation, the SSP said, a terror module was unearthed with the arrest of three terrorist associates of LeT outfit.
While conducting frisking at Paranpeelan Bridge Uri, security forces noticed two suspected persons coming from Dachi towards Paranpeelan Bridge and tried to flee while noticing the naka party, but were apprehended tactfully, Nagpure said.
During their search, two Glock pistols, four pistol magazines, two pistol silencers, five Chinese grenades and 29 live pistol rounds were recovered from their possession.
They were taken into custody and have been identified as Zaid Hassan Malla, resident of Mir Sahib Baramulla, and Mohammad Arif Channa, resident of Stadium Colony Baramulla.
“It is pertinent to mention here that they were involved in cross border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan based terror handlers and its further distribution to LeT terrorists for carrying out terror activities in the region, ” he said.
Meanwhile a case under Indian Arms Act & UA (P) Act was registered in Police Station Uri and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, they disclosed the name of their associate as Aftaar Ahmad Lohar, resident of Surankote Poonch, who was subsequently arrested, the SSP added.
Four arrested in Budgam
Security forces on Tuesday claimed to have arrested four suspected individuals and recovered war-like stores from them in Beerwah area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
An Army spokesman said that Army, Police, and Intelligence agencies conducted a joint operation in Beerwah, Budgam, during the intervening night of 25-26 September, resulting in the apprehension of four suspected individuals. Three pistols and other war-like stores were seized during the operation, he said.
