Srinagar, Dec 16 : Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir Saturday organised an awareness camp on drug and addiction at the Shalimar campus.
The camp was organised by SKUAST-K’s Directorate of Education and Department of Student Welfare under the flagship 21-day Foundation program IRTIQA-2023 titled ‘LEED to LIVE’ to ensure that the young generation stays away from the menace of drugs.
A series of programs, including an awareness talk by the Head Department of Psychiatry, SKIMS, Dr Abdul Majid, followed by interaction with the students, a documentary screening on drug abuse and its implications on society, and a quiz program, were organised during the daylong awareness camp.
Dr Majid, while talking in detail about drug abuse, the harmful impact of addiction, and various deaddiction methods, also highlighted the importance of adopting the concept of ‘prevention is better than cure’.
A documentary on drug abuse and its implication on society produced by RNA Media Group was screened during the event.
Each team of students in the quiz competition represented their faculty or college. The jury for the quiz competition was headed by the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof Rehana Habib Kanth along with all Students’ Welfare Officers of DSW. The quiz team of the Faculty of Veterinary Science were declared the winners, whereas the Faculty of Horticulture became the runners-up. In line with the NEP-2020, presently, all the freshers from the seven faculties and colleges of the university are participating in the mandatory 21-day foundation-cum-orientation program, IRTIQA-2023 under the theme ‘LEED to LIVE’. In the program, every day students take part in an awareness camp, a cultural event or a life skill program.
