Prime Minister Narendra Modi has rightly said in his post on the social media site X that Sri Aurobindo showed us how philosophy, spirituality and nation-building come together in service of a higher purpose. His thoughts inspire us to strive for an India that realizes its fullest potential. Paying homage to him on his birth anniversary. Indeed, Sri Aurobindo’s descent on the earth was a boon for the Indian nation. He was India’s Raj Rishi who integralised the civilizational continuity of India. His contribution is not an ordinary contribution in the national life of India. His presence can be felt in all spheres of the Indian national life when his life and mission is analyzed. He was not an ordinary human being. He was a Divine light that had taken the human form to pave the way for the descent of the supramental mind by making it clear to us that man is destined to achieve the super mind. The essential character of Supermind is a Truth-Consciousness which knows by its own inherent right of nature, by its own light: it has not to arrive at knowledge but possesses it. It may indeed, especially in its evolutionary action, keep knowledge behind its apparent consciousness and bring it forward as if from behind the veil; but even then, this veil is only an appearance and does not really exist: the knowledge was always there, the consciousness its possessor and present revealer. This too is only in the evolutionary play and on the supramental plane itself the consciousness lives always in an immediacy of knowledge and acts by a direct immediacy of knowledge. In Mind as we see it here the action is very different; it starts from an apparent absence of knowledge, a seeming ignorance or nescience, even, in material Nature, from an inconscience in which any kind of knowing does not seem at all to exist. It reaches knowledge or the action of knowledge by steps which are not at all immediate but rather knowledge at first seems utterly impossible and foreign to the very substance of this Matter. Yet, in the blindness of Matter itself there are signs of a concealed consciousness which in its hidden fundamental being sees and has the power to act according to its vision and even by an infallible immediacy which is inherent in its nature. This is the same Truth that is apparent in Supermind but is here involved and seems not to be. The Mind of Light is a subordinate action of Supermind, dependent upon it even when not apparently springing directly from it, in which the secret of this connection becomes evident and palpable. His contribution may be defined in terms of philosophical considerations on the academic level but his formulations are more than that as they belong to the highest consciousness meant to dissolve all the duality. His Integral Yoga when seen in the light of Agamic and Nigamic truths of the Indic tradition make it clear that he has developed his philosophy on synthesis of the best available in the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). Very few people know that Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Yoga is close to the Shaiva System of Kashmir also known as Trika. He developed his formulations to sensitize the nation that division in social and political life has to be ended as it has no space in the Divine Will . That is why he has prophesied that the partition of India will go and it has to go. He had a clear vision of Greater India. It is not a mere coincidence that his birthday falls on the Independence Day of India. He had immensely contributed to the independence of India as a revolutionary and as a seer who looked beyond the material pursuits. Sri Aurobindo’s Birthday and the Independence Day that fall on the same day that is 15th August symbolize that his life and work for the nation had a message and that was the united and strong India free from socio-political and religious subversion. May the Raj Rishi of India, Sri Aurobindo keep divinizing the national destiny of India.
