Srinagar, July 12: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), Saturday organised a three-day exhibition at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), which witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 1,000 students representing 28 Standards Club schools from across the region.

A statement issued here said that the event was inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, who was the chief guest on the occasion. The LG visited various stalls, including the BIS stall, where officials briefed him about the bureau’s initiatives in ensuring product quality, consumer safety, and the importance of standardisation. The visit reflected the administration’s support for promoting awareness about quality assurance among the youth. During the course of the exhibition, Member of Parliament Ghulam Ali Khatana also visited the BIS stall. He was received by Tilak Raj, Director BIS JKBO, who briefed him about BIS’s functioning, standard-setting processes, and the bureau’s role in safeguarding public interest through certification and testing mechanisms. Khatana appreciated the educational approach of BIS and its outreach to school students.

The BIS stall remained one of the highlights of the exhibition, attracting significant attention from both students and educators. The initiative aimed at familiarising young participants with the role of standards in everyday life, including sectors such as food safety, electronics, construction, and consumer goods. Director BIS JKBO, Tilak Raj, said: “This exhibition provided students with a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience and understand how standardisation ensures quality, safety, and efficiency in the products and services we use.”  Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer at BIS JKBO, interacted with students during the exhibition, responding to their queries and explaining the certification process and BIS’s efforts to promote a culture of quality among the younger generation. The three-day event concluded today and is part of BIS’s broader campaign to instil a sense of quality consciousness in society, particularly among students who will be the future stakeholders of the nation’s development.
