Srinagar, Jul 10: National Conference (NC) rank and file on Thursday paid heartfelt tributes to “Madar-e-Meharban” Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah, on her 25th death anniversary. The party in a statement issued here termed Begum Akbar Jehan as a “woman who was far more than a political figure—a guiding light in J&K’s journey toward selfhood, dignity, and democratic awakening”.Party leaders remembered her not only as the revered better half of “Sher-e-Kashmir” Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, but as a “resolute torchbearer of resilience, who stood tall during some of the most trying periods in the region’s history”.“Her quiet strength, unwavering resolve, and boundless compassion were the spiritual spine that upheld the collective morale of the people, especially during times of repression and political exile,” they said.Describing her legacy as one that transcended titles, the leaders said, “She was a force to reckon with. At a time when basic human liberties were but distant dreams, Madr-e-Meharban emerged as a voice of hope and healing. She was a pioneer in social welfare, a nurturer of Naya Kashmir’s ideals, and a symbol of women’s empowerment long before such ideas became part of mainstream discourse. From working tirelessly for the underprivileged to championing the rights of women and children, her contributions continue to weave the fabric of Kashmir’s socio-political consciousness.”The party reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the values she embodied. Her memory, they said, is not confined to the pages of history, but it lives on in every effort to restore the sanctity of the people’s rights in Jammu and Kashmir.“Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah’s legacy is eternal—etched in the conscience of a people she uplifted,” they added.Among those who paid rich tributes were Party General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Provincial Presidents Showkat Ahmad Mir, Rattan Lal Gupta, Members of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad and Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi along with Political Advisors Mushtaq Guroo and Mudassar Shahmiri. Also commemorating her legacy were senior leaders including Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Mubarak Gul, Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi, Sakina Itoo, Shameema Firdous, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzaan and YNC Provincial Presidents Mir Mushtaq and Tejinder Singh Aman as well as party’s Youth National Conference, Women’s Wing, Minority Wing, Media, and Social Media wings.
