Jammu, Mar 30: The Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday announced government jobs for the next of kin who were martyred during an en-counter in Kathua district and also announced a fi-nancial assistance up to Rs 70 lakh per family.
He also announced that a memorial gate in hon-our of the martyrs would be made from the MP fund.
The announcement was made by the union minis-ter during his visit to the families of Jaswant Singh and Balwinder Singh, two policemen, who were martyred during an encounter in Kathua district.
Visiting the families in Londi and Kanna Chak, the minister said the policemen’s wives will get a gov-ernment job each under SRO provisions.
“In addition to these immediate measures, a pro-posal will be moved to rename government schools after the martyrs as a lasting tribute to their sacrifice,” the union minister said.
Dr Singh also laid the foundation stone for a new bridge at Majalta. “This project aims to enhance connectivity and improve infrastructure in the re-gion, reflecting the government’s commitment to development and public welfare,” he said.
Singh said the country was grateful to its security forces as he paid his tributes to the fallen men.
“Two sons of Kathua district were martyred and I came here to offer my condolences to their fami-lies,” he said.
These are families who have not only defended the motherland for generations but have also made great sacrifices, said while talking to reporters.
“One such family had even received the Victoria Cross for bravery during the British era,” he said, while adding, “Jaswant’s wife is an MA-BEd, and Balwinder’s wife has completed her 12th grade and suitable jobs will be provided accordingly”.
As a Member of Parliament (MP), I announce the construction of memorials for both martyrs, he said.
