Jammu, Mar18: The government has clarified that no stadium or playfield project under the Khelo India Scheme has been sanctioned for Draba/Mastandara near the BDO Office in Bufliaz, despite reports of land acquisition in the area. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports stated that the Khelo India Scheme is a centrally sponsored initiative implemented on a state-wise basis, not by constituency, and that it has not received any intimation from the Revenue Department regarding land acquisition.
In response to a query raised by Choudhary Mohammad Akram also questioned the government’s plans to construct indoor stadiums in every block of Surankote Constituency. In its reply, the Youth Services and Sports Department said that no such proposal exists at present. However, the department highlighted recent developments, including the construction of a sports stadium at Surankote and a playfield at Charalla Fazalabad. Facilities developed include a modern pavilion, gender-based toilets, synthetic courts for volleyball, basketball, badminton, and a concrete practice pitch.
On the promotion of sports like Kabaddi and Volleyball, the government stated that a volleyball court has been completed at the Surankote stadium during the 2024-25 financial year. Coaching facilities will be provided to local youth, and a Kabaddi Centre may be established subject to availability of resources.
Regarding the regularization of Rehbar-e-Khel teachers, the government reaffirmed that the policy issued in 2017 allows for their regularization in a phased manner after seven years of continuous and satisfactory service. Upcoming vacancies for Physical Education Teachers will be reserved to accommodate this process.
