Jammu, March 15: Chakshu Gupta, a research scholar at the School of Languages and Literature, pursuing her PhD under the mentorship of Dr. Isha Malhotra, has completed an esteemed GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) course on Postcolonial Ecocriticism: Global Writings and Critical Natures at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur.
The week-long course, held from March 3 to March 8 was organised by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences under the leadership of Prof. N. P. Padhy, Director, MNIT Jaipur. The course featured international expert Prof. Alan G. Johnson from the Department of English and Philosophy, Idaho State University, USA. The coordination was managed by Dr. Preeti Bhatt, Head and Associate Professor, and Dr. Nidhi Bansal, Assistant Professor, from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, MNIT Jaipur. Bringing together scholars from leading institutions of India, the course delved into the intersection of postcolonial literary studies and ecocriticism, focusing on literature’s engagement with environmental concerns.
The programme consisted of 18 insightful sessions spanning six days, offering a comprehensive exploration of the relationship between literature, environmental consciousness, and ecocritical tropes. By successfully completing this prestigious course, the SMVDU scholar has further strengthened the university’s academic standing in interdisciplinary research, reinforcing its commitment to fostering intellectual growth and global scholarly engagement.
