Srinagar, Oct 16: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) started a weeklong Advanced Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program focused on ‘Design and Installation of Solar PV Rooftop System’ at its Shalimar campus.
Organised by SKUAST-K’s Division of Renewable Energy Engineering (REE) at the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, the programme is sponsored by the Union Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) under the Advanced Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP) category.
The training aims to inspire participants and equip them with essential skills to drive the solar energy revolution. It focuses on refining the concepts, designs, and components related to solar rooftop systems, with a specific emphasis on technical architecture. The programme also addresses various business models prevalent in the solar rooftop market and the roles of stakeholders in this context.
In the inaugural function, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai highlighted the significance of market-relevant skill training in shaping the future landscape of innovation and entrepreneurship. He engaged with each participant and stressed the importance of such initiatives for the region’s energy sustainability.
Dr Showkat Rasool highlighted the necessity of alternative power sources, especially solar power, to address future energy challenges. Prof Rohitashw Kumar, Associate Dean at CoAE&T, emphasized the role of solar energy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change. Dr Kalay Khan, the training coordinator, underlined the crucial need for solar power in Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Mudasir Ali, Head of Division of Renewable Energy Engineering, provided an overview of the training program’s content and highlighted the importance of the training sessions, specifically designed for the design and installation of PV systems using Advanced PVSYST software.
The programme, attended by about 25 entrepreneurs, unemployed youth, and students, is being conducted by renowned experts from reputed national institutions. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Rishi Richa, Assistant Professor at REE.
